A Certification Built for the Real Work

GHTI Certification is a structured, four-level certification program that moves clinicians from foundational literacy in providing healthcare for transgender and gender diverse people through to advanced clinical specialty — each level building on the last, combining coursework with coaching and consultation along the way. The program follows the same phases as our TransFamily Gender Journey Map, so your certification path mirrors the same clinical journey we already teach.

How it Works

Each level combines self-paced coursework with live coaching and consultation, so you’re not learning in isolation — you’re moving through the material alongside a cohort and getting real support along the way. As we finalize the program structure, we’ll share more about format, timing, and how each level builds toward full certification.

Level 1 — Foundations
A grounding in the history of the global trans community, the medical and mental health history of how trans people have been treated, and a full cultural competency course. This level also includes self-of-the-therapist work — looking closely at your own biases and assumptions before working with clients. Includes cohort-based coaching to support you as you move through the material.

Level 2 — Assessment
Focused on gender health evaluations: how to conduct them, how to write letters of support, and what you need to know about medical treatments to assess and refer with confidence. This level goes deeper into co-occurring issues that affect assessment, and into topics like fertility and medical transition that clinicians are often asked about but rarely trained on.

Level 3 — Clinical Competency
Where the work gets more complex: eating disorders, autism, and working with couples and families navigating real conflict and disagreement. This level also introduces working as part of a multidisciplinary team — an essential skill for handling complex cases well.

Level 4 — Gender Specialist
Our most advanced level, built for clinicians ready to move into supervision, leadership, and mentorship of others in the field. This level is still being developed, with a deeper coaching component and a focus on the research and skills needed to guide the next generation of providers.
